Ruins of Metropolis

A music blog that seeks to diligently serve up the "hypnotic pulse of modern city life and club culture" as it was once heard on the defunct KCRW radio show Metropolis. Wandering amongst the ruins we ask:
"What would Jason Bentley play?" ...

Kruder & Dorfmeister: “East West (Stoned Together)”

Jason Bentley was tweeting from the Kruder & Dorfmeister show at Nokia last night. This incredible track is off their 1998 album K&D Sessions, with vocals by Mama Oliver. The entire album is simply amazing, through and through.

Glasser: “Apply”

Definitely a Jason Bentley favorite (he was Tweeting last weekend about listening to her on his Sunday morning soundtrack), Glasser has this fantastic trippy track Apply off her EP by the same name. The EP also has other great tracks like the John Talbot remix of Learn. You can definitely imagine hearing this on the melodic streets of Metropolis…

Chemical Brothers: “Dissolve”

Earlier this summer the always consistently amazing Chemical Brothers dropped their most recent album adventure which they titled Further. And somehow, they did manage to go further into the ruins than they have before. Dissolve is perhaps the standout track on the album, though many other cuts are fantastic, such as K+D+B. We recommend checking out the music videos which were made for each track. They are included if you buy the iTunes Pass version of the album, and also on YouTube.

Massive Attack: “Paradise Circus” (Gui Boratto Remix)

Massive Attack’s latest album, Heligoland, has produced some great tracks like Splitting The Atom, and the sexy, haunting vocals from Hope Sandoval in Paradise Circus. Here, Brazilian producer Gui Boratto adds some more trip hop in his remix that sounds even more like Massive Attack than the original.

While wandering amongst the Ruins of Santa Monica, we came upon a man who looks very much like Jason Bentley, spinning some of his impossible to find wax long into the early evening. We were astonished to discover that he was playing many of the recent tracks we have been sharing, which was quite a vote of confidence.

Baths: “Rafting Starlit Everglades”

Off the LA based musician’s first full length Cerulean comes this dripping cut to accompany a slow rain amongst the ruins.

Zero 7: “Ghost Symbol (Julio Bashmore Remix)”

This remix, which was released last month by UK DJ Julio Bashmore, drops in some dirty bass and distortion into Zero 7’s track Ghost Symbol off their 2009 album Yeah Ghost. Julio is pretty well known for adding his driving bass to remixes.
